Among the surprising names on the bill besides Post Malone's "country covers" set: the Beach Boys, Wiz Khalifa, Nickelback and Leon Bridges
The lineup for the 2024 Stagecoach Festival in California has been announced, with Morgan Wallen set to be a first-time headliner and Eric Church and Miranda Lambert making their returns in that role over the course of April 26-28.
Post Malone may be the most surprising name on the bill, as, although his affection for country has been well-known, he has not made appearances at country fests in the past. The hip-hop-turned-pop star will be turning up on the middle night of the festival, performing what is being described as a “special set of country covers.”
Willie Nelson is the biggest veteran on the bill, with the 90-year-old icon making a return to Stagecoach after a long absence.
Although he is among the second-billed acts, Jelly Roll, a relative newcomer to the scene, is about as big as anyone or anything in country right now, and also made the news Thursday morning with five fresh CMA Awards nominations. He takes the main sage just prior to Church on night one. Other hot stars of the moment include Hardy, who just racked up four CMA nominations, and Bailey Zimmerman.
Stagecoach usually books a few artists from outside the genre, and that holds true for this lineup, with acts including the Beach Boys (following up on a surprise appearance in 2021 with LoCash), Nickelback, Wiz Khalifa and Leon Bridges. Diplo, a staple of Stagecoach for the last several years, will again have a late-night tent set as well as his own “Diplo’s HonkyTonk” area.
Other well-known names booked for 2023 include Elle King, Ernest, Maddie & Tae, the War and Treaty, Charley Crockett and hit newcomer Megan Moroney.
Veterans brought on over the three days besides Nelson will include Dwight Yoakam, Clint Black, Pam Tillis and Asleep at the Wheel.
Although there are not as many top-name Americana artists included as there have been in some other years, artists from that country-adjacent genre in the lineup include Trampled by Turtles and Allison Russell.
Church was supposed to be one of the headliners in 2020, when the festival was canceled due to COVID, so he’s finally making good on that three-year-old promise. The last time any of the 2024 headliners appeared at Stagecoach was when Church topped the bill in 2016. Miranda Lambert will return after a nine-year gap, as she last headlined in 2015.
Festival passes go on sale Friday at 11 a.m. PT, here, for the event at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif., which also hosts the Coachella festival on the two weekends preceding Stagecoach. Resale tickets are also available at Stubhub, VividSeats and SeatGeek.
