Postmates is a food ordering app like Uber Eats and GrubHub. You find what you want to order, place the order through the app, pay service and delivery fees, and it's delivered to you as soon as possible.

But, as with any other delivery service, sometimes you may need to cancel your order. Maybe you just made the order, for example, but realized you forgot those fries you wanted.

If you do need to cancel your Postmates order for any reason, you can, but the results can be very different.

If you cancel an order that has been scheduled for later, it's no problem. You'll be refunded the full amount and you can go on with your life.

The same goes for if you cancel quickly — if Postmates hasn't processed the order with the restaurant yet, you can cancel with no consequences.

However, if you cancel after the restaurant has begun preparing your order, and the courier is on their way to pick it up, you'll need to pay for the food and a cancellation fee, since Postmates will still have to pay the restaurant and their courier for their troubles.

Additionally, if you cancel when the food is already on its way to your door, you'll have to pay the delivery fee as well — at that point, unless the food will cause you an allergic reaction, it's likely better to just accept the items you're paying for.

If you do need to cancel a Postmates order, here's how to do it using the app for both iPhone and Android devices.
