Bamboo bedding is set to become bedding material of choice for many in 2023, and it’s easy to see why. The best bed sheets are soft, cosy and wonderfully breathable, helping to improve the quality of your sleep tenfold. The good news? Bamboo bedding ticks all of these boxes (and a heck of a lot more, too).
The fact of the matter is that the wrong bedding can impact the quality of your sleep in a big day, which can – in turn – impact your energy levels, productivity and general wellness. On average, we spend around 26 years of our lives in bed, so investing in quality bedding should be a no-brainer.

The best bamboo sheets at a glance:
Does bamboo make good bedding?
Bamboo bedding is known for being seductively soft, exceptionally silky, and naturally hypoallergenic, as well as being a game-changer for temperature control, with the added bonus of not needing to be ironed. Sounds like the dream, right?
Bamboo bedding is also naturally antibacterial and inhospitable to parasites and microorganisms (think: bed bugs and dust mites). With its hypoallergenic properties making it ideal for anyone who’s prone to skin irritation, eczema or allergies.
Bamboo bedding is fantastic for temperature control as the fabric is able to dissipate body heat more quickly than other fabrics.
Another reason bamboo bedding (and bamboo in general) has risen in popularity? Because of how sustainable it is sold as being. Bamboo grows more quickly than other materials like cotton, for example – and each plant yields a much larger amount which speeds up the production process and turnaround time. What's more, most bamboo materials are made without the use of chemicals.
Elsewhere, far more durable than its cotton and silk counterparts, bamboo bedding tends to last longer as long as it’s properly cared for. For best results, it’s advised to wash bamboo bedding at a low temperature using a non bio washing powder, and to only tumble dry on low, it at all. (It’s worth noting that even when washed on low, bamboo bedding will shrink slightly when first cleaned (but don’t worry as most sheets are made larger to account for any shrinkage that may occur). Oh, and don’t forget that bamboo shouldn’t be ironed (that’s a shame, isn’t it!) so your bedding will most likely have a rumpled look).
What are the disadvantages of bamboo sheets?
Bamboo bedding might be wonderfully silky to sleep on (think: spending the night wrapped in a cloud) – and it may offer a wide range of benefits that help to aid sleep and comfort – but, there are a couple of downsides to the eco-friendly material.
One common issue with bamboo bedding is that some bamboo weaves (FYI, bamboo bedding can be made of various fibre combinations, sometimes including viscose and sateen) can be prone to wrinkling. As bamboo bedding shouldn’t be ironed, this can leave your bedding adorned with wrinkles and looking slightly rumpled – a bit like the appearance of linen bedding. If you’re someone who likes a sleek, wrinkle-free bed aesthetic, this could be somewhat problematic.
Another disadvantage (albeit it a minor one) of bamboo bedding is that if washed at too high a temperature, bamboo bedding does have a tendency to shrink (the same goes for tumble drying), so following the manufacturer’s washing instructions is an absolute must. Obviously, washing and drying your bedding at lower temps (think: lower energy bills and less environmental damage) shouldn’t be too much of an issue, but, even so, it’s something that it’s worth taking note of.
One of the major pros of bamboo bedding is how sustainable it’s marketed as being, particularly in comparison to your go-to bedding materials like cotton and silk. But, the fact is that not all production processes for bamboo bedding work in the same way, and some actually use a lot of pesticides and chemicals. So, if you’re going to buy bamboo bed linen, it’s worth doing a little digging and making sure that the range you’re buying is as sustainable as it seems.

Quick drying, (as long as you follow the care instructions) this bamboo bedding tends to wash extremely well, without fading or noticeable shrinkage. One downside is how wrinkled it can get after a wash, but with a shake or two they do tend to drop out.
The bamboo used for this bedding is sustainably grown within managed forests, where the very highest social and environmental standards are met.
